Corbin

Well, I thought I would let everyone know what happened with Corbin last night assuming you haven't already heard something through the grape vine. We ended up at the hospital with him last night about 9pm and we were able to come home this morning and he is doing fine, I thought I would get that out before I explained what happened. Anyway, at about 8:30pm I believe, Lacey had just gotten home and Corbin had been dealing with a fever since that afternoon. We never thought much of it because he did just have a shot a last week as part of his regular check up and one of the side effects/reactions was a possible fever and/or rash. He was pretty warm when Lacey got home so we were planning to put him in the tub to try and bring his temp down and then give him some Motrin. As Lacey was checking his temp he started having a seizure, which at the time was probably the most terrifying thing I've ever been a part of. This went on for a couple minutes and in the mean time Lacey called 911. The make a long story short, after his seizure let up, he was obviously worn out, the ambulance arrived and we spent the night at Blank Children's Hospital. We learned that what happened to Corbin was a Febrile Seizure which is not uncommon in children his age up to about 5 or 6. It's a result of a sudden spike in body temperature and it's how the brain and body react to the sudden change. Some children are more prone to have seizures than others. The good news is that these types of seizures usually do not cause any brain damage and may not be as serious as they look, according to my literature I was given by the doctors. Come to find out, my brother Ryan, Lacey's brother Chad, and one of my cousins all had the same thing happen around the age of 3 with no repeat occurrances and they are all fine today. There is a chance that he could have another episode like this so we just need to watch him when he isnt' feeling well and is running a fever. What a crazy last 24 hours, but the good news is we are all home and Corbin is essentially back to his old self, running around and playing. Anyway, that's the story and I'm sticking to it. Hopefully we can get back to Clarion soon to check in on the Olson's, last time I think I golfed with Kevin, he threw my 3 iron up into a tree on a par 3 during his tee off!

Oh my, I can't even imagine how scary that was! I had a friend whose daughter went through the same thing and she never had any serious complications, hopefully the same will be said for Corbin's situation. I'm glad to hear he's doing well now! Big hugs to all three of you!
